Dog Control

Greg Starley, Town of Fenton Dog Control Officer
(607) 648-4800 option 8

*New York State Law requires that all dogs over the age of four (4) months must be licensed.  You may license your dog at the Town Clerk's Office during normal business hours (9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday).  A copy of a valid rabies certificate for the dog to be licensed is required at the time of the license purchase.  If the dog has been spayed or neutered, please provide a copy of the spayed/neutered certificate.

*Please note that effective June 1st, 2017 the fees for licensing your dog will remain the same as last year.

The annual renewal fees are:

  • $15.00 for spayed/neutered dog license
  • $25.00 for unspayed/unneutered dog license
  • $  3.00 for replacement dog tag
  • $10.00 late fee if unpaid 30 days past the license expiration date

Notes from your Dog Control Officer:

*If your dog Passes Away, is Relocated, or Changes Ownership, please be sure to notify the Town Clerk (607) 648-4800 ext. 0 immediately!  If you do not notify us of the changes and ignore license renewal forms and calls, you will still be summoned into court.  To avoid this, please keep us informed of your dog's status!

*Any person owning, harboring, walking or in charge of a dog, please do not allow your dog to defecate on public property or on any private property without immediately picking up the waste and depositing it in a suitable bag or other container which closes. The bag or closed container can then be deposited in a receptacle for the disposal of refuse.

*The Dog Control Officer is equipped and trained to respond to dog related issues ONLY.  If you need assistance handling other domestic animals or nuisance wildlife, contact Broome County Communications @ (607) 778-1911.

*Barking dogs can be considered a nuisance.  Town of Fenton ordinance states:  "Nuisance pet animal means a pet animal that...habitually or continually disturbs the peace of any individual or neighborhood by barking, whining, howling or making any other noise..."  Please be considerate of your neighbors.
